The New Male Birth Control Device


There’s a new, experimental form of birth control that lets people turn their scrotums on and off with the flick of a switch.


The device was created by German carpenter (?!) Clemens Bimek, who's the only person to have actually tried it so far. Basically, it's a valve that gets implanted into your scrotum that serves as a sort of on-off switch, which you can press through the skin of your ball sack (assuming you have one).

The device is less than an inch long and weighs less than a tenth of an ounce. Bimek's website describes it as "as small as a gummy bear."

Bimek is the only person to have one implanted so far. My favorite part of this story is how he underwent the procedure under local anesthetic so he could help direct the surgeon.

The valve is to be implanted in 25 men in trials starting this year.
